The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service Liasion Committee With the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Communities have create a 'Terms of Reference' Document.

Their mandate, is as follows:

The purpose of the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service Liaison Committee for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Communities is:

  • to provide communication between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service;
  • to enhance the overall safety of lesbians, gays, bisexual and transgender persons with particular regard to crimes of violence, discrimination and harassment and to develop active strategies to combat the concerns;
  •  to be a voice in support of a Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service working environment that welcomes police officers and civilian employees who are members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities by increasing understanding between these communities and advocating on issues of importance.


Their goals, are a follows:

1.      To provide communication between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service.

2.      To work towards identifying and eliminating barriers that prevent lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities from receiving/accessing assistance from the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service in a non-judgmental and respectful manner.

3.      To serve as a community-based forum for the community and the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service to address incidents/issues of concern.

4.  To continue to develop the mandate and goals that will facilitate and strengthen partnerships between community members and the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service.

5.   To share local, provincial and federal research, statistics and legal information that will assist in the continued education of the community and the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service.

6.      To cooperate with and support other organizations and associations that have similar aims and objectives, in order to develop a strong network of partnerships.

7.      To encourage formal and informal connections at the community level; 

 

    • to promote a better understanding of policing in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues;
    • to give lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community members or groups an opportunity to describe and report on incidents of victimization safely and anonymously;
    • to assist the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service in understanding the concerns and experiences of community members.
