Criminal Investigation Unit, including the Major Crime Unit, is responsible for all major crimes against persons. The officers of this unit possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct complex investigations and are responsible for investigating homicides and attempts, sexual assaults, robberies, assaults against children and the management of high risk offenders living within our community.
The Major Crime Unit is overseen by a Sergeant and a Staff Sergeant designated as the Service’s Major Case Manager. Supervisors in the unit are responsible for monitoring Major Case Management of threshold investigations, Sexual Offender Registry management, ViCLAS and PowerCase submissions.
The Active Crime Unit is responsible for investigations related to property crimes. These incidents include break and enters and thefts. This Unit regularly assists in major crime, robberies and sexual assaults, along with uniform patrol duties when requested. Active Crime also took a more pro-active role in dealing with weapons and illegal drugs during 2006. Active Crime receives support from all Divisions within our Service receiving valuable information from Uniform Officers, Intelligence Unit, Crime Stoppers and the Identification Unit. |
