The Traffic Management Unit consists of 1 Sergeant and 4 Constables. The unit’s goal is to conduct proactive enforcement focused on collision reduction. Analysis of collision data provides location and type of enforcement to be conducted. Enforcement Details are then conducted by members of the Traffic Unit. They often work with members of the various teams at selected locations. This co-operative approach results in more enforcement for the members of the various platoons and an increase in officer awareness of high-risk collision areas. The Traffic Unit is also required to assist members of the platoon to respond to both traffic and non-traffic related Calls for service. Members of the Traffic Unit responded to 768 non-traffic calls for service and 732 traffic related calls for service. The members of Traffic Management Unit participated in the annual spring and fall seatbelt enforcement campaigns, commercial motor vehicle inspections and the Christmas RIDE program. Selective enforcement and education was also conducted in the downtown core directed at cyclist and pedestrian safety. Members of the Traffic Management Unit participate in a variety of Special Details and Traffic related projects such as:
- Collision Reconstruction
- Infant Car Seat Inspection Clinics
- Operation Lookout
- Parades, Escorts and Traffic Control
- Intoxilyzer Program and Maintenance
- Bus Watch Program
- Transport Safety Council
- Ontario Traffic Conference
Most members of the police service have received theory and practical instruction on the Laser and Radar units. |
